Are You An Entrepreneur?

I’m always fascinated by entrepreneurs, and have wrote articles about it.

Entrepreneurs are the prime movers of business and industries, and as a result of their risk taking, imagination, innovation and their never-say die attitude, are able to establish companies and businesses that give employment to people and improve the quality of our life.

What about you? Are you thinking of becoming an entrepreneur? Do you have the qualities to be one?

In a study conducted some years ago by Eduardo A. Morato Jr., a management writer and professor of management, he found out some eight qualities of an entrepreneur, as follows:

1. The entrepreneur is an insightful man (which is a generic word, and includes woman).

He is filled with imagination and wonder. He generates ideas through brain processes which utilize both the left side (analytic) and the right side (creative) of the cranium. The entrepreneur is one who brings his expertise, knowledge and technical prowess together in a thriving enterprise.

2. The entrepreneur is a man of highly developed senses.

He sees opportunities, smells dangers and hears a stampede a mile away by keeping his ears close to the ground. He is able to discern true gold from false glitter. He can sniff the lethal effects of poisoned brew as well as savor the fragrance of good vintage wine. He listens to learn and to know.

3. The entrepreneur is a communicator.

He is able to sell his ideas to financial backers or skeptical consumers. He develops friendly contacts, reliable suppliers and loyal buyers. He is sociable when socializing, silent when uncertain, glib when provoked, laconic when cautious and oratorical when formality prevails.

4. The entrepreneur has substance or body.

His enterprise is supported by a good organizational network, firm bones to hold up a strong body. He has a good circulatory system for the free flow of ideas and products. He has a good product physique that attracts customers.

5. The entrepreneur can stomach most crises.

He has the guts to do things beyond the usual cry for just getting things done. One thing about the entrepreneur is his ability to grapple with uncertainties and the cruelties of a harsh environment. He is able to tame risks with his determination and single-mindedness. He has courage and endurance.

6. The entrepreneur is a doer.

He works well with his hands. He is not afraid to get them dirty in the shop, wipe them clean and extend a firm handshake. He is driven to seek challenges, explore possibilities, risk his future and hope for the best even in the face of great odds.

7. The entrepreneur is mobile and flexible. He has legs and feet that permit locomotion from one product to another, one market to the next, from small to large, single to complex, and operations to strategy. Locomobility gets him going.

8. The entrepreneur is an adventurous spirit, sparked by highly-charged missions and visions to innovate and succeed.

He is the soul of the enterprise, the primordial life force that creates the venture of his dreams.

Are you an entrepreneur? Do you have the qualities to be an entrepreneur? If you have, then it’s time to start your own business and make a difference.

  1. Very good article. I was enlightened by the qualities of an entrepreneur. I have been dreaming of becoming an entrepreneur since I was a child. Hopefully I can fulfill it later, when I saved enough money to go on my own. As of now, have to be employed to survive and earn my keep. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Worth visiting your site always. Am not a blogger, but likes to visit good blogs to read.

  2. Haha! I think the title of your post should be ‘Qualities of the Ideal Entrepreneur!’

I’ve known some of these people, even been one myself to a limited degree, and whilst the (very) sucessful ones do indeed have the qualities mentioned, in varying degrees no doubt, there are a lot more who fail to meet such lofty standards.

One area that may be an issue is the general public image of the Entrepreneur. Most only think of the famous people, the ones who’ve ‘made it’. In reality most entrepreneurs are far more down to earth, and may lack the vision really needed, as well as the basic busines acumen required to suceed!

I think the list above needs to be added to. Mainly it should say the E’ needs to undersand how businesses work, and have the ability to function properly in whatever area they wish to engage in.

Many do of course! The ones you don’t hear of though…

  3. If you find an entrepreneur you’d better send them over to Entrecard real quick !

Thanks for your question on their Forum. I was banned within 90 seconds of posting an item which informed them that running paid ads describing Entrecard as “100% free” was incorrect because of either 15% of a blogger’s ad time being taken away, or a charge of $50. To make such a claim would actually contravene UK law – the “Trades Description Act 1987″, to be precise. As soon as I posted – banned ! Their paranoia seems to get worse.

    All the best,

    Jim

  4. Entrecard is, in fact, a free service. The usage of the widget for placing ads is NOT a monetary charge. The $50 fee is NOT a mandatory fee.

You must have posted at the same moment that Andrew was in the forums. He does visit and read every day.

  5. Interesting! but I’m not so surprised..coz that’s what I thought
but desire to build wealth as an important motivation in becoming an entrepreneur suprises me the most.Anyways thanks valuable information.
    Stay connected.

  6. Wow, this is very interesting. Already forwarded this link.

I agree with this. Even though I’m only a student, I created, and almost took off with a business plan this summer. An entrepreneur needs to be ready to adjust, needs to have confidence, and needs to be ready to get back up after getting pushed down. It fascinates how most entrepreneurs get rejected after their first proposal, but continually go back with improvements until they get the green light.

  7. Truly motivating informative blog post. Agree to all of the points, motivations and characteristics of entrepreneur.

In today’s world of economic change, social media presence, it is more than important to think entrepreneur.

    Cool…thumbs up to you. :D )
