I work with small to mid-sized retailers, and I emphasize that they must seek to differentiate themselves without competing on price. Few, if any, smaller retailers can compete successfully on the basis of price. So penetration pricing is seldom an option. To be successful, a smaller retailer must be able to find a price that meets their margin requirements and is competitive. Creating demand that commands a price is ultimately the challenge, and where creating a memorable customer experience can assure retail pricing integrity.
