Tribal Blogs, Blogging and You
A few days ago, I joined a new social networking site for serious bloggers—and a site free of crappy and junkie blogs.
The site is called Tribal Blogs. What is Tribal Blogs? It is a community of writers whose outstanding blogs set them apart from the rest of the pack.
As explained by Jen of Redhead Ranting blog, the founder of Tribal Blogs: You can be a member of Tribal Blogs if you share the following qualities with these bloggers:
- You are a gifted writer
- You engage your readers
- You share your thoughts and feelings by commenting on posts that interest you
- Your blog is inviting
- Your readers trust you
No matter what your blog is about, you, as a writer, regularly engage, interest, entertain, and welcome your readers into your life. It’s not about how many comments you get or how cool your theme is. It’s about rising above the thousands of crappy blogs out there and taking pride in your work.
Tribal Blogs promises to be a different social networking site. As Jen rhetorically asks: “So why are all of us talented bloggers giving away our hard work for some free merchandise or a chance to put our button on another site?”
Consider the following scenario:
You spend 2 hours dropping 300 Entrecards. The popular blogs cost 2,100 points for a 24-hour spot. Thus it will take 14 hours of dropping to earn enough pretend money to buy that ad. Now let’s say you’re a freelance writer, charging $35/hour for your services. That means those real-time hours just cost you $490.
Why not go directly to the blog you want to advertise on and pay $20 for a whole month? A whole month during which you don’t have to share that spot with another advertiser.
By joining Tribal Blogs, you will avoid the frustration of having to wade through those hundreds of blogs that don’t update regularly, that don’t post original content, that never respond to comments, and that are just not worth your precious time.
What do you get for joining Tribal Blogs?
- A community of great blogs where you can feel safe to express your opinions in a free but professional manner. Barely a month since it was established, Tribal Blogs has already 92 members as of April 2, 2010 and many bloggers are applying for membership.
- The Tribal Blogs toolbar, which allows you to easily visit member blogs
- The ability to purchase advertising on member blogs without having to go through a third party
- Support from and networking with other high-quality bloggers
- A forum for respectful but honest discussion on a range of pertinent topics
- Traffic. Indeed, since I joined 2 weeks ago, my Google Analytics report has tracked down 28 visits through Tribal Blogs.
Joining Tribal Blogs is free. You can download the toolbar, surf some great sites and network with other pro bloggers without any cost.

Eli, I want to clarify one thing because the qualities listed are not mandatory and have frightened off a few bloggers. “Gifted writer” is subjective and many bloggers don’t consider themselves writers, let alone gifted writers. I disagree but that is a confidence issue. If you enjoy blogging, take time to write a decent post of original content, correspond with your readers then in my book that makes you a gifted writer. My writing has gotten better because I have read so many great blogs over the years. I have learned from them how to be a better writer and blogger, that is who Tribal Blogs is for, people who enjoy the blogging experience of connecting and are looking to learn from other bloggers/writers how to make their blog even better. So don’t think because you have issues with sentence structure or punctuation that you can’t join Tribal Blogs, you can and should. I have big problems with commas and I make up my own grammar rules as I go along but every time I read a great blog I learn something and my blog gets better.
In addition to the free membership there is also a premium membership which gets your blog in the toolbar so all who use it visit your site. It also puts your blog in the feed page “The Tribe Has Spoken”, in addition to those traffic boosters it allows you to join members only groups such as “Leave a Penny” which is a group where bloggers pick up and leave ideas for blog posts that might not work on their blogs but would work for someone else as well as “Peddle your post” for bloggers who have written a post but it doesn’t work for their site, other members can then pick it up if they need a guest post.
Thanks Eli, sorry I took up so much space. J
Hi Eli, I have also joined Tribal Blogs though I certainly do not consider myself a gifted writer, but I believe Tribal Blogs offers a lot of great opportunities.
I have also joined Tribal Blogs and it is a fantastic place. I have met a bunch of really nice bloggers and just in general it is great fun. There are a lot of groups and so you can get lots of answers. I am certainly not a good writer but I have fun and try to write a post as often as I can think of something to write about. It is a super place.
Dave, I do consider you a gifted writer. Your tales of what goes on at the compound keep me riveted to the page. Your characters are incredibly descriptive. I have said on a few occasions how you remind me of Christopher Moore, my favorite author, when you describe your mother in law. Don’t sell yourself short, you have a great knack for telling a colorful story.
Tribal Blogs is the coolest thing ever. Jen really came up with something different and fun. I’m finding all sorts of new blogs and it’s so easy because the toolbar is right there in front of my face all the time.
She makes really great bourbon balls, too.
Tribal Blogs is a perfect site to find non-crappy blogs. I certainly would want to join but I don’t consider myself an exceptional writer. I believe solely on blogging to express and not to impress. Writing is a skill that needs to be honed each time and I believe I still am a work in progress.
Awww, shucks, Jen, I’m going to blush. Thanks for the kind words. Looks like Tribal Blog membership is continuing to increase. It was great of Eli to write about it.
wow. I would love to browse through those blogs, as I consider myself crappy. ^^ wanna learn some and read interesting stuff. If ate Lainy says she’s not an exceptional writer, that makes me what? hihihi
I got familiar with it when I visited Redhead Ranting.
Jen followed me up through email and it made the difference.
With super busyness last week, I only get to sign up today. Tribal Blogs is an awesome blogging community site to learn and meet good writers.
P.S.
Eli, I would like to let you know that I have been visiting your blog every single day ever since though I may not comment that often.
Another thing, I am glad to find out that Fledgling Blogger is at number 4 upstream site that brings unique visitors to your blog as checked in Alexa.
Have a wonderful weekend!
